From 1971 to 1973, I wrote a chess column in the High Flyer and Space Sentinel base newspaper at Beale AFB, near Marysville and Yuba City, California.

In 1972, I contributed some chess articles and humor to Ken Smith's Chess Digest Magazine (1968-1979).

In the early 1970s, I was a contributor to Chess 'n Stuff magazine.

From 1975 to 1979, I wrote a weekly chess column called Pawn Power in the Statesville Record & Landmark newspaper in North Carolina.

In 1975, one of my games, Robinson-Wall, Vancouver 1975, appeared in Chess Informant 19 (game 297) and in the May 1976 issue of Chess Life in an article called "check out the checks." The opening later showed up in one of the volumes of Encyclopedia of Chess Openings.

From 1976 to 1978, I was co-editor of the Carolina Gambit in North Carolina.

In 1979, I was co-editor of Chessman magazine for the southern states.

From 1980 to 1984, I was editor of the Dayton Chess Club Review.

In 1982, I wrote 300 King's Gambit Miniatures.

From 1982 to 1985, I was co-editor of the Ohio Chess Bulletin.

In 1983, I wrote 500 Sicilian Miniatures.

In 1984, I wrote 500 French Miniatures.

In 1985, I wrote 500 Queen's Gambit Miniatures.

1n 1986, I wrote Larsen's Defense, Owen's Defense, 500 King's Gambit Miniatures, and 500 Ruy Lopez Miniatures.

In 1987, I wrote 500 Italian Miniatures and 500 Sicilian Miniatures.

In 1987, I wrote History of the Dayton Chess Club (1957-1987).

In 1988, I wrote Grob's Attack and 500 Queen's Gambit Miniatures.

In 1989, I wrote The Orangutan.

In 1990, I wrote 500 Indian Miniatures and 500 English Miniatures.

In 1990, I was on the cover of International Chess Magazine, edited by Robert Karch.

In 1991, I wrote the 1990 World Chess Championship and 500 Caro Kann Miniatures.

In 1992, I wrote Smith-Morra Accepted.

In 1993, I wrote Smith-Morra Declined and 500 Pirc Miniatures.

In 1994, I wrote 500 Alekhine Miniatures.

In 1994, Laszlo Polgar wrote Chess: 5334 Problems, Combinations and Games. One of my miniature games (game # 4844) appears in the book.

In 1995, I wrote Dunst Openings and 500 French Miniatures II.

From 1995 to 1997, I wrote chess articles and chess analysis for the International Email Chess Club (IECC).

In 1996, I wrote 500 King's Gambit Miniatures II.

In 1997, I wrote 500 Scotch Miniatures.

In 1997, Robert Tanner wrote Castling to Win! He referenced one of the games I published in 500 Queen's Gambit Miniatures.

In 1997, Edward Winter wrote A Question of Credibility. On my article on Alekhine, he wrote "[Wall] directs his 19-watt searchlight at the career of Alekhine." I did have a few misspellings and a few factual errors that I fixed as soon as discovered them. I did not reference some of my trivia nor provide any documentary source to any of the trivia items I included.

In 1998, I wrote 700 Opening Traps.

From 1998 to 2009, I had a popular chess website at geocities.com.

In 1998, Eric Schiller wrote Gambit Opening Repertoire for White. He used some of my chess miniature books as references.

In 1998, Eric Schiller wrote Whiz Kids Teach Chess. I was mentioned as a coach to Jordy Mont-Reynaud, who was America's youngest master at the time (age 10). I was his chess coach while living in Palo Alto in the 1990s.

In 1998, Eric Schiller wrote Unorthodox Chess Openings. He referenced my monograph in the Owen's Defense.

In 1999, I wrote 500 Blackmar-Diemer Gambit Miniatures.

In 1999, Edward Winter wrote Kings, Commoners and Knaves: Further Chess Explorations. He quotes a few trivia items I had on the Internet and wrote "The perpetrator of this jumble has unabashedly given the name: Bill Wall."

In 2000, I wrote 500 Center Counter Miniatures.

From 2000 to 2016, I contributed chess articles to the Unorthodox Opening Newsletter (UON).

In 2001, I wrote Off the Wall Chess Trivia ebook.

In 2003 to 2005, I contributed to over 70 chess files in pgn format for DB books.

In February 2004, Sarah Beth (batgirl) wrote an article called A Brief Tribute to Bill Wall at http://www.edochess.ca/batgirl/Walltribute.html.

From March 2004 to September 2007, I wrote a chess column on chess trivia and chess miniatures for Black & White magazine, a chess magazine published in India.

From October 2004 to the present, I wrote and updated biographies and analyzed games at www.chessgames.com.

From May 2007 to Mach 2016, I wrote hundreds of chess articles and blogs at chess.com.

In 2007, Maurice Ashley wrote Chess for Success. An appendix in the back lists many famous people who played chess. Ashley asked me to provide that list and gave me credit for it. (Maurice, you still owe me an autographed copy of your book).

From 2007 to 2010, I wrote several articles on California Chess at www.chessdryad.com.

In 2008, I co-wrote Winning with the Krazy Kat and Old Hippo, with Gary Gifford and David Rozzoni.

In February 2009, my web site at geocities.org was gone, but it was reserved at www.oocities.org/siliconvalley/lab/7378/chess.htm. The articles were also preserved at Off the Wall Chess at http://offthewallchess.weebly.com/articles.html.

In 2009, Nils Nilsson wrote The Quest for Artificial Intelligence. It references my concise timeline of computer chess history.

In 2010, Gino Di Felice wrote Chess Periodicals: An Annotated International Bibliography. It mentions that I was an editor of the Dayton Chess Club Review. I was its editor from 1980 to 1985.

In 2010, Frank Vahid wrote Digital Design with RTL Design, Verilog and VHDL. The book references my article on computer chess history.

From 2010 to 2012, I wrote a variety of chess articles for chessville.com.

In 2010, Alexey Root published People, Places, Checkmates: Teaching Social Studies with Chess. I was reference for the section on foreign chess terms and how to pronounce them. I played and lost to Alexey at a chess tournament in San Antonio in the 1990s.

In 2010, Joel Johnson wrote Formation Attacks. A game (#194) that I played with my father in 1969 appeared in it.

From September 2010 to June 2012, I wrote White Knight Review chess e-magazine (http://offthewallchess.weebly.com/white-knight-review.html).

In 2011, David Shenk wrote The Immortal Game. I contributed several items for the book and proofread the book before it was published.

In 2011, I wrote U.S. Presidents Who Played Chess, which was later used at the World Chess Hall of Fame and excerpts appeared on ChessBase.

From 2011 to the present, I have been contributing games to The Jerome Gambit web site run by Rick Kennedy. I think I have contributed over 200 Jerome Gambits over the years.

In 2012, Lee Croft wrote George Anton Schaeffer: Killing Napoleon from the Air. He referenced my article on the chess automatons.

In 2012, I provided some assistance with possible dialog for the documentary film, Brooklyn Castle.

From 2012 to 2015, I have written dozens of chess articles for ChessManiac at www.chessmanic.com.

In 2013, Mato Jelic wrote From Chess Novice to Advanced Player in 7 days. One of my games, Warren vs. Wall, NC 1975, was published. I played the From Gambit as Black and checkmated my opponent in 7 moves (1.f4 e5 2.fxe5 d6 3.exd6 Bxd6 4.Nf3 h5 5.g3 h4 6.Nxh4 Rxh4 7.gxh4 Qxh4 mate). I had another game published where I won in 9 moves.

In 2013, I wrote Bill Wall's Chess Encyclopedia, on the web at https://issuu.com/visualdesigngraphics/docs/encyclopedia.

On September 10, 2013, Bill Keller wrote Playing Chess with Putin in the New York Times. The first sentence starts out "On the list of principles compiled by the chess strategist Bill Wall, number 21 is 'Do not make careless pawn moves. They cannot move back.' This is especially true if you are sitting across the board from Vladimir Putin..."

In 2013, Jerome Corsi wrote Who Really Killed Kennedy? I was referenced in the book (page 52, footnote 106) on an article I did called "The Cognitive Psychology of Chess."

In 2014, David Wilcock wrote The Syncronicity Key: The Hidden Intelligence Guiding the Universe. My article on who is the strongest chess player, which appeared in chess.com, was referenced.

In 2014, Nicolae Sfetcu wrote The Game of Chess. It referenced an article I wrote eon the Evergreen Game between Anderssen and Kieseritsky and at what point Kieseritsky resigned.

In 2014, Kieron O'Hara and Nigel Shadbolt wrote The Spy in the Coffee Machine. There is a reference to my article on computer chess history.

In 2014, Thomas Katsampes created a chess web site for me to preserve all my chess articles. The chess page is at billwall.phpwebhosting.com. A recent review calls my chess page as "most interesting, well-liked by users from USA and Canada...safe and generally suitable for all ages." The web site has about 2,000 chess articles and chess game collections. As of this writing the website has more on chess than any other single webpage in the world.

In the September 2015 issue of Chess Life, Frank Brady wrote "The Marshall Chess Club Turns 100." I provided a lot of reference material for Frank Brady on Marshall, for which he gave me credit.

In 2016, I made a few chess videos for YouTube. They were very short chess games that I demonstrated.

In 2016, Anders Ericsson and Robert Pool wrote Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise. It references my article on Benjamin Franklin and chess trivia.

In 2016, Andre Schultz wrote The Big Book of World Chess Champions. There is a reference to some of my web articles on world chess champions.

In November 2016, I was interviewed by a reporter from the Wall Street Journal on the history of chess in New York City.

In 2016, several of my chess books were available for free at archive.org.

My chess books have been reviewed in Chess Life, British Chess Magazine, and CHESS.
